Over the next 3 weeks we are going to have a bit of fun with our blog topics. This series is all about breastfeeding in public! But before we get down to the serious stuff (believe me this is a HOT topic!) we thought we would kick it off with a few of our favorite celebrity public breastfeeding moments. Here are our 5 Fave Celebrity Breastfeeding Moments of 2015.
1. Blake Lively.
Not only did she post a beautiful breastfeeding snapshot on Instagram (which we promptly reposted out of love!) Blake Lively openly supports breastfeeding and its benefits. Just this month the 27 year old actress posted the IG pic of herself in a bikini and wrote ‘Perks of Breastfeeding!’ And she’s right! Breastfeeding burns about 300 calories a day! Breastfeeding, combined with a balanced, healthy diet and exercise is a recipe for a healthy mom. Lively’s little girl, James, is still breastfeeding happily at 7mos.
2. Nicole Trunfio
Now, we weren’t familiar with this model before her Elle Cover Photo, but we sure are now! Nicole Trunfio and her four month old son Zion were featured in a stunning breastfeeding photo for the cover of June’s Elle Magazine Australia. In the photo Trunfio breastfeeds her naked babe while emanating beauty, confidence and the glow of motherhood. We realize that not everyone looks like this breastfeeding, however, we are glad that this public picture went viral as it places awareness back on the beauty and normalness of breastfeeding. In a statement about the photo Nicole says: There is nothing more powerful and beautiful than motherhood. The last thing I want to do is to be controversial, so please take this for what is, let us normalize breastfeeding, there is nothing worse than a mother that is judged for feeding her hungry child in public. We are only human. I am so proud of this cover and what it stands for. Well said.
3. Olivia Wilde
This 31 year old actress was featured breastfeeding her son Otis in the September issue of Glamour Magazine. The photos are beautiful, however, she and her photos were chastised by a Los Angeles Time blogger for making “motherhood look effortless and easy.” Wilde defended her photos as well as breastfeeding in public without judgment. We agree with Wilde! Moms are shamed if you don’t breastfeed and shamed if you do! The photos are beautiful and highlight the beauty and nature of breastfeeding and motherhood. They also highlight the judgment that every mom feels when mothering. Moms hear it from many places: the media, magazines, friends, mommy blogs, and even family! Everyone has an opinion on how to mother and how motherhood should be portrayed. This photo highlights one aspect of motherhood and should not be criticized for not highlighting others. Thanks Wilde for defending breastfeeding in public and the beauty in it.
4. Doutzen Kroes
Featured in Vogue magazine, this Victoria Secret’s model shared a heartwarming breastfeeding family photo. In the photo she breastfeeds her beautiful babe while her other little one and her husband enjoy family time. Taken in a Vogue studio, this photo captures a lightheartedness and radiates comfort and a sense of home. In this photo her daughter, Myllena is 5 months, breastfeeding happily.
5. Alyssa Milano
Celebrating the change in Instagram policy to allow pictures of breastfeeding, mastectomy scars and artistic nudes, Milano posted a beautiful photo breastfeeding her baby girl, born September 4th. Milano became a breastfeeding advocate after a few of her IG breastfeeding posts were criticized as being inappropriate. Milano smartly retorted “Wait! I don’t get it. No disrespect to Kim but… people are offended by my breastfeeding selfies & are fine with her (amazing) booty cover?” This was in reference to the nude photos Kim Kardashian had posted earlier. We wanted to applaud Milano for pointing out a cultural double standard that exists. Thanks Milano, for supporting breastfeeding moms and breastfeeding in public.
Like we said in the intro, breastfeeding in public is a HOT topic. We want to focus on how normal and healthy it truly is. As Nurses, we also want to spotlight the incredible power of the human body to meet the needs of our children. Thanks to these Celebrity moms for breastfeeding in public and working towards normalizing breastfeeding.
